Jubilee Worship Service

We call our second service each Sunday the "Jubilee" service. It has a more contemporary feel than the first service, being led by a small ensemble or a full worship band depending on the week. The music tends toward contemporary Christian, while the sermon is the same engaging and relevant message as at the early service.

Dress for all of our services varies from casual to formal. We invite people to come as they are. Children are welcome. This service tends to have many babies and youngsters and the sound of children's laughter is frequent. We also offer a staffed nursery during this service, so that if parents need a break they can find it.

We call this service the Jubilee service, trying to convey the sense of joy and celebration the Holy Spirit sends into our midst as we worship.

The word Jubilee is special in the history of the Bible. It comes from the Hebrew word, jobel, which meant a ram's horn - the instrument used to proclaim a celebration. In the Latin language, the word is jubilo which means to shout. In both cases, the word projects a sense of festive worship. In the Old Testament Jubilee was a most rare and special festival occurring once every 50 years. During the year of Jubilee, the pardon of God was proclaimed. Debts were forgiven, slaves were freed, mortgages were cancelled, and families would seek to recover their lost members. After the festival, everyone started over with a clean slate. When Jesus arrived, he announced a festival of Jubilee. As a result, the rich and powerful became nervous, but a great sense of excitement spread among everyone else. Especially among the poor, the sick and the outcasts, there was a wonderful sense of expectation. God was going to do something new and they couldn't wait.

Please invite your friends and neighbors to join us!
